In view of the ever-increasing number of migrants, emigrants and refugees, it is hardly surprising that many people in today's world are becoming more and more multicultural. This ongoing trend of internationalisation, accelerated by digitalisation, is shaping our societies and the experiences of individuals as they navigate their diverse cultural environments. While culture and cultural differences have been the focus of studies on Intercultural Management and Communication since Hofstede's seminal work Culture's Consequences in 1980, multiculturalism at the individual level and the diverse experiences associated with it have not yet been sufficiently researched.
This symposium therefore aims to explore the challenges and, above all, the opportunities associated with this topic – an emerging field of research with interdisciplinary and cross-border relationships and implications for various other areas within the humanities, social and organisational sciences. By bringing together intercultural scientists from different fields, discussions and innovative ideas will be developed and impetus given to a future research agenda. Through keynote speeches, discussions and interactive sessions, participants will have the opportunity to share their unique insights and knowledge. By bringing together different perspectives, we can explore which research paths can be taken in this new field.
Inviting scholars who have first-hand experience of bi- and multiculturality due to their biographical background will add valuable depth to the scientific insights to be shared. This symposium aims to foster constructive collaboration between renowned experts, connect perspectives, create a platform for the exchange of knowledge and the development of new ideas, and facilitate connections and interdisciplinary research collaborations.
